No, that isn't correct. This has been tested thoroughly and you are spreading misinformation.

Nobody made the argument that you can't do well on bad controllers. The argument was that speedrunners use N64 pads predominantly because they're the best controllers to use for N64, just like arcade sticks are for Sreet Fighter.

The 120 star world record holder uses a hori pad, although most IL runners agree that it bottlenecks his movement. There are N64 controllers you actually can't do well at all on, though. Like the $10 replacement sticks you find on ebay.
