Green Hill and Marble Zones aren't actually that different if you play Sonic as the pinball inspired platformer it was always intended to be instead of thinking you've "gotta go fast" on every level like a speedrunner.

Yes, Green Hill is incredibly more speedrunner friendly than the slow-paced platforming of Marble, but nobody played Sonic 1 that fast back on release until they'd mastered it. "Gotta go fast" is a meme born from Sega advertising that the Genesis was faster than the NES (or was it SNES?).
