this might be the wrong place to ask, but is there a System Shock 2 mod for controller input? i'm missing my pinky and ring fingers on my left hand so i can't really use keyboard for games anymore.

Why is this game considered so highly?

The entire game concept is a maze filled with respawning enemies, and the gameplay is a nerfed, "realistic" (used very lightly) shooter with some shitty "roleplaying" (again used lighty) skills tacked on. Not to mention how visibly it gets broken and how obvious it is that the level design got much lazier/rushed towards the end of the game (no comment on the ending itself).

How is this game considered to be good, or even in the same league as something like Deus Ex?

If you like this game, what did you like about it?

I recently finished this game, and I think it may be the best game I have ever played. System Shock 2 thread.

These are all my jam. I play through the Marathon trilogy once a year about, and am fucking around in LoM currently, just doing crafting which I could do for fucking ever. Golem making is a lot more fun now that I can be bothered to understand how it works.

But SS2 has gotta take the cake. I've still got my jewel case and CD I got back in '02 that's traveled with me everywhere I've gone. Must have beaten the game 30-something times, including 3 this year so far, tried out every conceivable build I could figure out, played on all difficulties for the hell of it, some runs lasting weeks and a few just a single day if I was on my game and had nothing to do, played through with friends seriously in the dead of night and just fooling around and laughing at the bugs... the Von Braun will always be there for me.

However I despise the game from being a huge letdown after the first one, it's still probably my favourite one from 1999.

So I started playing System Shock 2, and this game is amazing. It is definitely one of the best games I have ever played.

So, let's have a System Shock 2 thread.

I think I'm finally done with System Shock 2.

Bought a copy of it online about 5 years ago, played through it on normal with each class, hard on marine and osa, impossible with osa, strict no-psi/no hacking/no standard weapon runs, played through co-op once with 2 and once with 3 people, and played though secmod twice.

I still get the urge to play it sometimes but... I think it's time to put it to rest.

I'm in the mood to lose myself in a game. I want something first-person with a strong narrative, like SS2 maybe. Anyone got any suggestions?

I haven't ever seen a Systemshock 2 thread around here, so I decided to change that.

About to play this for the first time. Anything I need to know beforehand, or can I just jump straight into it?

Alright /vr/, I'm going to ask for help but at the same time, not be given the direct answer.

I'm at the part in System Shock 2 in which I have to find the transmitter code by finding them via the art terminals.
I already found

10

4

and
[1

I know there's going to be a last digit, but I'm a bit stuck...
I'm wondering if I should throw in the towel and look it up on a guide. Or should I hang in there and keep it up?

Obviously, it's my first playthrough.

Does this get harder later on? I'm nearing the end of MedSci and I just don't feel like I'm struggling to survive (Impossible difficulty).

Also general SysShock thread if anyone's down for it

Hey /vr/ I started playing system shock 2 and I love it. I think it's the old 3-D graphics that really bring me in. Would you recommend some great early 3-D games for the PC?

Can someone explain why this game is so well-regarded? I just started playing and maybe I'm missing something but it does not seem to live up to its hype.

Is this one of the games where you had to have played it back when it was new? I like the atmosphere but the clunky interface and overall ugliness of the game just sorta shit on it for me.
