The Nintendo 64 games are fucking awesome and also have less butchered translations. The second game in particular is what you're looking for if you want co-op, it's a 2 player side scrolling platformer that is both the best in the series and one of the best in the genre. The first one is totally different, it's more of a Zelda type game but also really damn good.

I'd give it a go on an emulator and savestate my way through it, but no emulator can actually run it because it has major issues on water stages.

Are there any games that you come back to that are BETTER then you remember, not just hold up?

I just replayed some of this with my brother for old time's sake and I might've had more of a blast this time around.
