Because it's one dimensional? I mean there's a lot more depth to these characters than their nationality. The Bogard brother's story worked because the entirety of the game Fatal Fury was used to tell their story. For the Meira brothers they just kind of show up and the audience are supposed to care about them(despite them having no visible struggle.) At most we get some ingame text that infers that bad things happened and they're here after a timeskip to settle the score.

Then with Mai there's more to her than her looks. Her looks are a big part of her character since her fighting style of being a kunoichi revolves around using sex appeal catch opponents off guard. But where she really gains some depth is in her relationship with Andy. Andy, like his brother, desperately wants to avenge his father and so devotes himself completely to ninjutsu. Mai falls in love with him and from then on is always teasing him and has her tits and crotch in his face.

I know that video game characters usually aren't meant to have a lot of depth but I think Andy's struggles are overlooked and there is some depth there. He wants to defeat Geese as much as Terry does but must have difficulty getting real training in with Mai around.

It kind of asks the question of what is manlier: banging some premium grade triple S class alpha slut like Mai or completely subverting ones urges to devote yourself entirely to a martial art to get good enough to avenge your family's mortal enemy.

Of course Terry gets all of the credit in the end except that Joe and Andy were there to back each other up as they went through the tournament's fodder.

Fuck, now I want to go back and watch the Fatal Fury OVA. It's kino anime trash but it's 1990s kino anime trash. Hand drawn cell shading has a look about it that's missing from cgi anime today.

JD is fine, feint cancels are a lot more annoying of a mechanic I feel. Cool idea on paper but feel awkward to input in combos to me.

Brazil sort of does. Japan sticks to Fatal Fury Special mostly and Korea and China are too busy with KoF sadly. RB is real underappreciated.
