I'm plenty happy in other regards. And really no reason to complain, there's way too much to play as is.

Unironically Dragon's Dogma.

Retro Phantasy Star 1 or 4 then work through the others if you love them. Tales of Phantasia and Destiny will probably also appeal. Probably Lunar as well. Stick with Sega CD.

I had a lot of fun with DD as well and I like how there are different sections. I wish it was more like Monster Hunter in that you don't level up but other than that I thought the open world dragon hunting was great and what I'd wanted from MH for a long time. I've still only dabbled in MHW but my other Mon Hun buddies seem to mostly like it.

Dragon's Dogma on the other hand is an example of a game with a ton of promise being all but ruined in the end by it's leveling system. You get so powerful so quickly that many mobs were only ever a challenge in their first encounter unless you took great lengths to challenge yourself.

Shit it was fun though, and that's the kind of entertainment that a lot of modern games are great for. A huge sandbox where you can set things up and make awesome challenges.

DD was more of a straight rpg with a focus on combat. I really wish it had been more in the vein of MH or PSO. It was still good, but no matter what you out level everything if you play it much.

Did give me one of the most epic boss fights I've had though. Three attempts before I won and in the end took over 2 hours fighting a thing that OHKO'd me with anything more than a scratch. Took like a week of days in-game too, night time when the forest was crawling with goblins was scary shit.

Damn I hope they make a good sequel.

You think one shitty game that was a remake of an already not all that great game means that nothing else is good and never will be again. There's always always been mounds of crappy games, and big promised flops. And there's always always been gold.

All you can do is look around, obsesses over what disappoints you and it's sad but it's also really funny to watch.

Again they're not the only company, but one example would support the rule. What you said is completely ridiculous. It's plenty possible to make interesting and interactive 3D worlds.

I don't care one way or the other what you thought about Fantasy Life. I'm sure you hate it for all kinds of reasons and that's just fine.

>20 year old
So is that literally all you're going to talk about for the whole thread now?

Sorry if I offended but I thought Assassin's Creed was boring as all hell. Which was frustrating since I like a good open world game and the setting seemed cool.

As for looking forward to releases, I never do. I'm always a few years behind and pick up what looks neat on the cheap. My pile of have to play is always growing though. I could name some games but you'll just nitpick and my whole point was how I like that not everyone has to like the same thing.

You can choose to be annoyed that devs don't cater to you as much anymore, but it's wasted effort. No one owes you anything.

I used to feel this way, through the PS1, PS2 eras. But it has been getting better. Relatively speaking we're still in the early days of making things look good with 3D rendering.

My response is that I think modern games on average are at least as good as retro ones, and that the industry is healthy and thriving. You can disagree, but these are just our opinions. And my opinion is the way it is because every year that comes along brings me more games I end up loving.

>>3322708
>at one point they made a severe conceptual mistake.
In your opinion. Not everyone agrees. If you can't see that, that's entirely your issue.

>Then how can you say modern games are good.

Because there have always been games I didn't care about. If I went with your argument I would also think PS1 era games are bad, but I don't.

I don't think Call of Duty is a bad game, I just think it's a game I'm not interested in. And that doesn't bother me, because I have plenty of other games I am interested in to play. That's the great thing about games, especially these days. There's a ton of variety.

If I limited what I play to only the top 10 anything it would be a pretty boring life.

We have the same hobby, dude. It's just that I like games from all eras and don't have my panties in a twist because things change.

I don't think everything about the current gaming environment is good, but I didn't think everything about the gaming environment of any age was all good. But I look at what's good and focus on that, and there's always plenty of good. Your list of complaints either don't bother me, I understand why they're necessary or I flat out like them like DLC. You don't, you're pissed about it and I get that. I think you're being childish and missing out on a lot of good games, but it's no skin off my back. I think it's funny modern gaming makes you this upset.

Monster Hunter is so much more than that. It's fundamentally a big boss hunting game. That's what the meat of the game is, and in that sense it's way better than the Souls games and especially PSO.

>5 enemies and 100 recolored enemies
This makes me think you haven't even played the games. Indeed there are some different coloured monster variants, but they typically have different attacks, patterns and weaknesses.

Ignoring the colour variations, the first Monster Hunter had 17 different boss size monsters. The current game has 33. Then on top of that, many of them having different sub species. That's a hell of a lot more than 5.

While you do collect loot and items, the basis of the game is fighting massive, long boss fights. To me it's almost perfect for that. The souls games are neat, but they're no match for MH's bosses.

>Get on board with Dragon's Dogma already.
Dragon's Dogma had promise, but the leveling system killed it. By the end of the game everything was so stupidly easy that it really bugged me. And I was playing solo, no party members and a long dead pawn.

I started a new game and fought the drake at a stupid low level that was a lot of fun, but in general the game doesn't hold up to MH in it's difficulty and that's what gets me going.

I really liked the beginning of Dragon's Dogma, but it got way too easy by the end. I wish it didn't have leveling, or the leveling was slower or something. I really wanted the thrill of Monster Hunter with a big pretty open world setting.

I did go back after beating it (didn't continue in the crusty darkened sky world) and fought the drake at a crazy low level that took me 4 in game days to beat when I finally did (I died several times because anything more than a claw scratch one shotted me) That gave me satisfaction, but ultimately more Monster Hunter came out, and that game is like my crack.

I didn't mean to imply DS and MH were necessarily all that similar, just that the one made me want to play the other. Like I say though, I'm crazy stupid picky when it comes to video games.

I played PSO back in the day too, but that game was pretty dull overall.
