With smart TV's and devices becoming exponentially more powerful, we'll be able to emulate almost any console at virtually no cost, including the more powerful ones like Wii and Wii U, which will also be retro by then. FPGA is a nice concept, but with things like AI, AR, and VR are advancing a lot faster, I expect apps like EmuVR and New Retro Arcade to eventually take over as the frontends of choice using RetroArch as a backend. Players will be able to visit each other's rooms/arcades over the web (already possible on both I think) and check out their virtual collections while building their own. Possibly newer versions will have the ability to add modern games as well. Physical collections might still exist, but with compilations like reining supreme.

We need to talk about toys and mini consoles. SEGA will eventually release the Saturn Mini and Dreamcast Mini with both Genesis Mini's now being mass produced. Third parties will probably create their own off brand NES and SNES Mini's (again already happening) but this time they will be freely available on store shelves in the toy aisle along with the SEGA mini's. And I guess if Konami still cares they might do another TurboGrafx run or something, maybe. Mini arcades will also be easy to find in the toy aisle if people want their physical gaming fix. Pretty much though it's going to be between compilations and mini consoles/toys if people truly want to collect something. Somebody might eventually craft a working replacement for CRT's that supports an HDMI mode somehow, otherwise people will just move onto 4:3 monitors or something

You are opening a retro arcade. You can only afford ten cabinets on opening day. Which games do you pick?
