Why the hell do japs like SD games so much

I swear to god i'm playing them in alphabetical order and i will never leave SD because there are so many goddamn SD gundam rpgs

So, i know you guys don't like frontends that much, but fuck it i have nowhere else to ask

Are all the frontends still shit and insanely convoluted to configurate or shit changed during these past months i was away from the scene? I'm setting up my old laptop as an emulation machine in the kids room and i wanted something pretty and easy for them to play around with without downloading dolphin porn to the HD and etcetera

Free if possible though. Heard about Hyperspin and Launchbox having paid versions, but i'm already buying this shit physical, i'm not paying for emulation ffs
