This game is alright. The atmosphere is great and it's scarier than any modern game despite no real danger from a player perspective but I have a few complains:

Navigation is shit, everything looks the same, closed doors everywhere, you need to check the map every 5 seconds and by the time you get familiar with the layout the level is over.

There are too many fucking monsters, they become more routine than a real threat. Actually rooms with no monsters start getting spooky because somethings missing.

The second half of the game just before Cybil fight is terrible with 2 sewer levels and non stop flying monsters harassment.

Yo, you guys remember that Silent Hill game on ps1 right? Remember how fucking scary it was considered at the time.
Full on I was the dumbest sperg of a kid and thought to myself "I should give this to my cousin cause he loves scary stuff for christmas" I was like 6 at the time and saw very little of the game right. So I give it to him and he's like excited to play it and happy but his mum tells him not to play til the next day. So I come across him at his home some days later and he's like shaking and talking about how scary it was. He tells me years later at a Christmas that I was a pretty fucked six year old.
Anyone have any other reactions they thought of the game at the time?
I look at it now as pretty interesting to research into.

Note: I am posting this and then going back to play through till completion. I figure since /vr/ is slow it will still be here when I get back.

So I am playing Silent Hill for the first time and I am curious about a couple things.

1. I just finished replaying RE 1-3/CV:X and I feel like I am drowning in ammo/health items. I just obtained the VHS Tape and the Examination Room Key in Hell Version of the Hospital As of now I have:
>11 Health Drinks (Would have more but I spent time dicking around learning melee)
>6 First Aids
>1 Large Heal Thingy
>120 Handgun Ammo
>32 Shotgun Ammo

I was using mainly handgun, but once I found that Safety Axe in the Hospital I am using that unless there are a bunch of enemies

2. What the fuck was the liquid I sucked into a plastic bottle (lewd) inside the Director's Room, and is that what caused me to be able to good to Floor 4 (Entrance to Hell) in the elevator?
3. Why the fuck didn't more survival horror games adopt this camera/control style. Its so comfy. I feel like it would be perfect for Resident Evil. Its a really nice blend of Stiff Tank Controls while giving you some basic movement abilities.

Im just bummed that I don't have a PS2 anymore so I have to play on PC (I fucking hate playing games on my PC with a controller)

I'm about to to play the first Silent Hill on a PS2 slim because my friend wanted his PSone back. Thing is, I wasn't really into CRTs, Hz, resolution and all that stuff back when I played it on my friend's PSone, I just played it on a CRT but didn't really gave a fuck bout how it looked.

So now I'm playing it on the PS2 through a CRT and I'm feeling some differences.

When you're outside, the objects far from you show up differently than how I remember, I can notice the exact moment when the object pops up, I remember this didn't happened on the PSone, on the PSone the objects really felt like they were appearing progressively because of the fog, maybe it's just me.

I'm also noticing that it's running on 240p when I'm on the gameplay, but it switches to 480i when I go to the inventory. Does this also happen when you play it on a PSone? can someone pls check, I'd appreciate it.
