if memory serves me correctly:

when working : Upon pressing power there would be a clicking noise followed by the normal CRT whine. picture appeared on screen over about 2 seconds, slowly getting brighter until normal. light crackling sound that got quieter until disappearing about 4 seconds after powering on ( it almost sounded like a very quiet rainstick) . After that the monitor functioned perfectly.

When it died the picture appeared dim and distorted and then dissipated until blank.

Now upon powering on, it makes a sound as if it is turning on normally, the green power light appears, and there is still some faint crackling when powering on, but there is no picture and the picture never appears.

I don't think any pieces would fail from wear due to the fact that it was new in the plastic.
