For me it's also nostalgic as fuck. I used to spend the better part of the summer playing Heroes III with my sister. We would never play against each other so we ended up playing the few allied maps that you could find before modifying other maps to allow teams.
I know that I will probably never have the chance to spend the summer that way for the rest of my life since we live in different cities and we're 'grown-ups' now, her being married and having two kids.
