I always wonder if it's actually possible to play 32x/Genesis games on a 32x on top of a 32x on top of a 32x

So I'm interested in getting into the original game boy and maybe the GBC. Can anyone recommend me some good games to get started? Obviously Pokemon, Metroid, Zelda, Mario, but is there anything perhaps more obscure but still awesome I should look out for?

Okay /vr/, supose I have a little brother, girlfriend, dog, alien friend, dad that wants to start playing and learning about game. Which are the games, in the different genres, that would be good for beginners?
I'm posting this here because most of the old games are better to start with because of simpler and/or purer mechanics and to understand the evolutio of the medium.
