This and the sequel. Kids in 2015 don't have a clue how many things they innovated in the still young 3D action-platformer genre. SEGA's butchered ports and shitty offerings haven't helped, but it's like they can't be discussed at all without somebody claiming they're overrated or completely shit. They got rightfully great reviews on release because of their innovations and in spite of their many flaws, it wasn't because everyone was fucking blind, living in denial or some shit.

This and Crazy Taxi are tied. Doom II, Starfox 64, Pokemon _Red__, and Tony Hawk are all close winners as well. 1990 to 1999 is a huge span of time with multiple consoles getting shitloads of releases. Narrowing it down to one is pretty damn hard, so I'll just go with games that I could pick up and play at any time and still have fun.
