There's some things I like about 5, but it gives you all these options for recruiting monsters and then they're mostly useless by the end because your family is so powerful. I also really don't like the bride selection section, the storytelling there just feels so clumsy compared to almost everything else in the whole series. They should have either just given you your childhood friend to marry made the other option (or options depending on version) feel like they make sense.

5 definitely has some great things about it, but overall I think it's the weakest out of that trilogy of 4, 5 and 6.

I ended up mostly using my family in the end which is one of the things I consider a low point of the game. Giving you all these options for recruiting monsters and then both gameplay and narrative wise being strongly encouraged to just kick them to the curb.
