Plus the butchering of lore is awful, a bit here and there is fine but the brotherhood in fallout 3 for example......cringe inducing.

This is more a forum drama question if anything in regards to getting feedback (or dealing with some behaviors), I think it's fine to talk about it here as we're all anon and the threads move so fast there is no ego to linger around.
How can you differentiate between genuine criticism given out of a desire to help another improve and comments that are just stupid, mean spirited garbage in cases where it is not totally obvious?

Because some of the comments I've seen on the Doomworld and Zdoom forums are just stupid crap that I think comes from the mind of somebody who is not being mean as such, but just so sure that their idea is the best they will hang around telling everybody how wrong they are when nobody else really agrees with them.
