In that case, .22mag usually refers to .22 (Magnum), a heavier loaded round of ammunition in caliber .22. This is in contrast to what most people consider standard .22 rounds, .22 LR (Long Rifle), which are significantly smaller, despite the bullet having the same diameter.

When dealing with firearm cartridges, there's some overlap between caliber sizes, such that some rounds require more specifics to correctly notate. For instance, .30/06 rounds, 7.62x39mm, and 7.62x55r are all .3 inches in diameter for the bullet but all have different loads and are used in different rifles (Such as the Garand, the SKS/AK, and the Mosin Nagant/RPK).
