Keep in mind: Degica's only released 1.0 Edition, not 2.0 or 3.0, which recently released over in Japan. Definitely get it, though, if you ain't got 1.0, because it'll be a bargain at the Summer Sale price-point or lower. There might be an English text patch for 3.0 any day now...who knows, the A-Train community's very spread out, news travels slow.

Railroad Tycoon for you, then. A-Train isn't about competing with other transit companies (though adding them in would be the logical evolutionary step for A10). You definitely get to abuse the stock market and compete financially, just not socio-economically for control of the local area.

Artdink should absolutely consider using multiplayer modes (play-by-email or play-by-block-of-time) to test out new concepts for transit competition and influence wars. I'd imagine it's the Japanese fanbase that would oppose this, since they prefer shiny new content and variety of ways to build their railway landscapes. A more competitive aspect wouldn't have to factor in until you've reached high-level play, anyway, or if you've filled out much of the map area and are maintaining a steady profit with upkeep and increasingly risky infrastructure.

I'm starting to think this too: AIV Evolution for the PS1 apparently has mouse support (Maxis' localization, by extension), meaning I can easily play the game like A-Train III if I wished to. Good thing they included an awesome early A-Train 5 engine with which to view maps in 3D. I also forgot it comes with English language support, and that the 3D view loads damn quickly. Take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsTBR9oo3lQ

A-Train 2001 would be fun to play, but it would perform best on PC. At least there's mouse support.
