It depends.

I use a Dualshock 2 connected via USB to PS2 controller connector for most emulation especially PS1 and 2d games.

For n64 I always use my 360 controller though, it feels more n64-ish.

I use the 360 controller for DC and Saturn emu too for obvious reasons.
As much as I like the Dualshock 3 the triggers and the fact the controllers fall to pieces quick stopped me from buying anymore. My ps3's are useless now pretty much. Not just that but new DS3 controllers are really shoddily made. They all come with l1/r1 triggers that depress too much and cut into your fingers and shittily put together shells that creak and feel like shit in your hands. Sony has pretty much ditched the ps3 and in the last years of its life just fucked the controllers over. The analog sticks are made out of cheese and wear in quick too. There might be one in every ten bought that feels like it's usable. They're still selling them at 45 bux too which is taking the piss if they were 20 bux now or something it would make sense.

I've been thinking of buying a DS4 but the LIGHT is the dumbest shit and makes me not want to get one.

Thing about that is that Dualshock 3's cost a ridiculous amount still.

That wouldn't be such a big issue if not for these two glaring issues;

1. They've really cheapened out on them recently I've had 10+ in the past year (taken them back to have them switched out for another) hoping to find one that wasn't a debacle.

They all had SHARP seams that feel like shit on your hands, that's not such a big issue though until you realise that the l1/r1 buttons now tend to dip in too far and your index fingers tip jams into the seam and it starts to hurt your finger immediately making it uncomfortable a shell to play with. Also lots of squeaky face buttons/analog sticks not working properly etc.

(these were all legit bought from big chain stores)

2. The analog sticks plastic is actually some kind of cheese and wears down quick as you use it.

Not so quick that it matters a huge amount but for the price you pay you'd expect one to last you years of constant use. You will get a DEEP groove after long use. Usually on the left analog so now that pushes further than the right and makes them feel out of sync.
Not sure why Sony cheaped out on the quality control of the later Dualshock 3 considering the price of them still.

Get a Dualshock 4 if you want a wireless Dualshock. The battery doesn't last as long but at least it won't most likely be as big of a piece of shit from the get go.

Buying second hand Dualshock 3s is probably gonna lead to shitty or fake controllers too.

That said I've heard the mad cheap ebay fakes (that look and are sold as real) are often about as good as the real deal these days.
I use a Dualshock 2 and the USB adapter for most emulation on my PC.

Wired 360 controller for Dreamcast and analog N64 since it feels more natural for those.

360 pad for general (non retro) games

360 is useless if you want a DPAD btw.
