I have multiple CRTs (including a PVM) and I would say that while I do enjoy them, playing on a massive flat panel is definitely more "fun". Even with a massive consumer grade CRT. CRTs, in general are more plug and play, however. They just work for the most part and if you're looking for that CRT style then you won't spend eons messing with settings to get a good output from a retro console like you'd have to on a new flat panel.
The real redpill is that it doesn't matter and the only thing that does is if you, the person playing the game, is actually having fun.

Bring up a gray ramp and increase contrast until the light end starts to bloom and looks physically larger than the dark end.

You'll also notice bright scanlines begin to blend together when you've gone too far. Keep 'em crisp.

Actually you might be better off with PAMP or a combination of all three.

Just note your settings beforehand and be methodical. It's not really that hard, just requires patience and logical thinking.
