Would you believe me if I said Squaresoft actually made a horizontal shmup? Would you also believe me if I said that it's absolutely excellent?

If you haven't heard of it yet, I'd fully recommend Einhander for PS1.
Not quite your typical shmup. The game has a strong emphasis on the weapons you can pick up, choosing the ones you want wisely, and utilizing those for the small amount of time you have them for (they all have limited ammo and if you don't get more of it it won't last you as long as you'd like it to)

Beaten this more times than I can count. It never gets old. I also think it's one of the most well-balanced of the genre, in terms of difficult level as you progress.
