My approach would be diverged reboot that remakes all the parts in Meta Fight that weren't directly remade in Blaster Master Zero; for example, level layouts reused in Zero would be changed up, and the returning bosses would be fought differently, like alter GOEZ's boss fight in a similar way the frog and skeleton bosses were reimagined.
Also, I'd begrudgingly age up Kane and Jennifer a bit. Kane looks older than he's supposed to in Zero 3, and the "teen hero" idea is a bit dated.

Blaster Master: Blasting Again was such a strange game, I have a theory on that.
>BA was initially planned to be a legit Metafight sequel in Japan.
>Sunsoft realizes they should rewrite the game for the west to fit the old BM canon.
