What are some retro games with exploration and progression as open-ended as Metroid 1? Even something like Super Metroid feels linear by comparison.

Does anyone have a clear (without any notes) map of Metroid? I wanna play through the game and discover shit and make notes, but I'm too lazy to draw the whole map layout by myself.
