> (i wanna) colorize Gameboy games
it's not just "make this that color" with a mouse press, it's a true hacking project. there is unique ASM code in every game that assigns a set of monochrome palettes to every sprite / tile in the original GB. Colorizing involves finding, learning and expanding this code with a stylistic eye to suit your unique vision of how the game should look.
> (i wanna) learn
Try these:

Be warned that Chibi is wrong sometimes about specific details and gives generalized advice, but it is more than good enough to kick your foot into the door to the world of developing Z80(ish) ASM for the Gameboy

> to GBstudio or not to GBstudio
it really depends on what your goals are. last i checked, which was more than a year ago, it's great for making pokemon style RPG games, but that's about it. if that's what you want to make, then fuckin go for it.
i haven't seen anyone make a platformer or space shooter or anything performance intensive with it, but i'm not sure how much it has improved.
> Will I be bullied
yes 4chan is a wonderful place to ask this question well done

> hiram for 16 bit
POP motha fucka
...in most cases don't bother. just use regular ram, load up HL and LDI / LDD. you can only get 8bit values in and out of A faster in HRAM without manipulating the stack pointer, which is a dangerous game.

i probably just thought it was a straight port of the arcade at the time, and never thought much about it. what a fun little action platformer with all of that Nintendo polish you can't really get anywhere else. i couldn't be happier honestly, playing a "new" first party Nintendo game from my perspective.
im really enjoying SGB2 on SD2SNES, probably gonna beat that Kid Icarus game next, haven't gotten around to that one either.

> too zoomed in
it was designed for a gray brick, not a modern monitor or even a CRT
> too slow
LCD refresh was ass on the gray brick
> no map
the point of the game is to get lost and learn your way around
> annoying beeping
...yeah ur right that shit sucks
> the jump
crouching and jumping gives you another height, 2 tile i think it is
> blah blah blah
its honestly a technical masterpiece for the system it was designed for, yes its flawed, but its far superior and not really comparable to anything else on the system as far as an open world action platformer

HA! great reverse engineering =)
> could have been fixed in less than a minute.
well, you have to consider that we have all of these fancy emulators and debug tools now. the machines used to develop these games were ancient and archaic. it may not have been so obvious back then =)
