Let's get some sweet old school pixel art going!

It's a Nintendo power calendar, they did a few of them back then.

They do shift but there's also a cycle to it. I've found calendars from years past where the days are in the right spot.

I do. That's why I go for clear crisp pixels where the game can finally be seen in It's true glory.

The box art is one, the fact that their own game Super Mario Maker has sharp pixels (not a crt filter) is another, the use of pixel art for Amiibos and these old calendars.

And no, I didn't say the devs intended the games to look pixelated. They knew the limits of the display technology. But they knew that with the right display technology where you could see the image undistorted is how the game would look it's best.

I am right. They have shown this over and over again. Any time they show 8-bit Mario, he looks clean and crisp like the guy on the box cover. Not like a bunch of pixels blurred by CRT distortion. They never do that.

That's funny. I'm a bit shocked that /vr/ is as triggered by pixel art as they are.

It means the games will finally look the way Nintendo always wanted them to.

Daily reminder that Nintendo loved blocky pixel art.

No, but the same company that made the game ordered the design of the calendar. They very obviously went for a pixel art style to show their games. And not just in one or two examples. In every single example.

Every time Nintendo shows their old games in "high resolution" they always make them look pixelated.

When Nintendo releases Mario Maker, it looks pixelated. There are no scanline filters to simulate CRT blur or a way to hook it up to a CRT. The game has clear, crisp pixels because that is what Nintendo has ALWAYS been shooting for. Since they started making games.

The fact that the look blurry on a CRT is simply technology limitations of the day. If you want to know what Nintendo themselves thought the graphics should look like, just look at the posters and calendars they produced and sold.

They're not actual filters. All through the calendars they play with different pixel resolutions, that's clear. Point is though, it's pixel art and doesn't show any indication of scanlines.
