the first robopon game is a blatant pokemon knockoff but it does try some new things. (sun/star/bom bom special/moon)
the gba game is actually decent but the localization isn't the best.(cross/ring)

yeah the robopon manga has huge honkers that get bigger as the manga goes on.
they later took the manga designs and made a new version of the original gbc game with new sprites and content named after the magazine the manga was in.
there's another version after bom bom special called moon that uses the improvements but goes back to more normal sprites.
by the time the gba games came around, the manga designs became the standard.

honestly robopon 1 isn't bad for gb standards, its just that pokemon is a lot better. after beating sun i went through the japanese comic bom bom version that has the manga designs.

yeah they're in the comic bom bom special version.
basically robopon had 3 normal versions (sun, moon, star), and then a special 4th version like pokemon did.
comic bom bom uses the manga designs, so it changes some of the sprites.
