>I also found the environments and musics rather bland

For all of its flaws I'd say the music and environments were the greatest things about the game. If I recall the first part of the game has you start out in a mad scientist's laboratory, then a prehistoric jungle, a cave passage full of sandy sinkholes, a tar pit filled with huge dinosaur bones, some amazon river type crap, then to a volcano filled with retrofitted machinery. And this is all before you travel to the other eras.

The music I just love. It's not as consistently great like SoM or SD3 but many of the tracks set the mood wonderfully and has what I think is a hugely underrated miniboss theme. Here's a few of my faves to judge for yourself.

All that said I'll admit I've never completed the game so can't say much for the story which I would agree seems to be pretty nonexistent. The magic system I recall being pretty fucked too, requiring you to use your spells over and over again before they're worth a damn. The alchemy reagents could have been fun but just felt incredibly unnecessary. The spell effects were pretty damn neat though, and I think overall the combat was pretty fun despite each area having maybe 2-3 varieties of enemies.

General consensus is that SoM and SD3 are the superior games and there's no arguing with that. It still deserves some credit though for taking risks with a largely ambient soundtrack and a (somewhat) unique magic system.

"Haha" isn't particularly scathing mockery, anon-kouhai. But thinking that a Japanese DVD for a Japanese show that only officially airs in Japan has English subtitles is pretty okashii.
