Vagrant Story. Although nothing can overcome the hardcoded faults of the respective hardware it runs on, the developers pushed the PS1 to its absolute limits with VS. In some cases, they went as far as to exploit hardware bugs and relied on other arcane trickery to render in-game scenes. I'm frankly surprised the game emulates as well as it does.

Vagrant Story. Different anon, though.

Most JRPGs are fanfic-tier nonsense, but Japanese developers have on occasion churned out works that are far more down to earth.

Manbum, you say?

Seriously, what was with the costume designs. I think there were only two or three females in the entire game, so maybe the artists were desperate enough to start objecting the men as well.

>dat ass

Wardrobe designs aside, it seems the writers actually went out of their way to keep the few female cast members off-screen as much as possible. Not that I'm complaining...

>Why do you do it /vr/?

I really can't sum up my reasons in one sentence, but if you prefer brevity, I'll try to summarize with a list.

- More emphasis on gameplay than QTEs or producing a cinematic experience.
- Nintendo Hard difficulty feels more rewarding and keeps the game fresh longer.
- Usually simple to emulate, so retro games are easy to bring to multiple devices and platforms (e.g. I can actually keep my entire retro library on my PSP)
- How much more innovation can the industry bring at this point without producing diminishing returns? Gaming has reached its technical apex, where it now sits and stagnates. e.g. Dark Souls is basically just King's Field with next-gen graphics. Unless we start going full VR, everything has already been done.

I didn't find the gameplay at all shitty, but it's the only example I can think of. The cast is almost exclusively male, and the artists had a thing for ass-less pants.

Then there's Sydney, who parades around without a shirt for the course of the entire game.

After recently playing Morrowind, I was thinking: Are there any /vr/ games that manage to pull off a similarly deep and immersive atmosphere, despite their technical limitations? Maybe the earlier Elder Scrolls games would be an obvious answer, but what else?

I don't think I've ever been as excited by a game as much as I have with Vagrant Story.

>Shirtless European hunks everywhere
>Cutscene close-ups like to show off Ashley's ass-less chaps
>Plenty of male-on-male action
