>Meanwhile your Atari 2600 will probably work until the heat death of the universe.
Funny you mention it. It has been stored in the attic for the last 20+ years, and still works. I didn't test everything, but everything I tested worked without a hitch. It get hot up there in the summer, and most of the labels have baked off.

>there's still enough of us alive to call it a demanding market.
We are the market. The market is "shrinking" because there is no longer a casual market. Hard core collectors and gamers of the vintage will remain, but the casuals will move on from that side of the hobby. You can see a shift as time goes on in /vr/. Ever see a post about gaming on X retro system digress into a shitpost match over emulation on a Wii vs Pi? It happens in just about every thread. I still have my Atarii 2600 in the attic in a box. I got it out last year for lulz and a picture, and put it right back where I found it. It may even still work. The only reason I even got it out was so that I could laugh at it while I put my box of PSX and N64 games under it. I doubt they will ever appreciate to new prices in my lifetime. I am glad that there are ways to enjoy them still in their native format with flash media. The Wii is pretty solid for what it does for older emulation. My brother is the keeper of my NES, My sister has my other N64, and my sister-in-law has my Snes....My genesis+32x was sent 1000 miles away with my friend from school because of the Wii. I am that casual about it.

>I can see why you'd feel that way, but there are many games that need tons of extra attention to play correctly, like I mentioned. Plus you're underestimating people's desire to hold something tangible in their hands

A flash cart or CD-R plays on the native system exactly the same, and costs less. I HATE PC Emulation. I would NEVER waste my time. But Steam and other digital distribution methods have shaped the minds of a generation. I am not a collector. I had my fun, and I don't see a future in "gaming" for me either. I could sell all my games and never miss them. I would still keep the systems and peripherals, because I can still enjoy them as they were with flash media, but it is more about remembering the good times...not as a meme of a past I never lived.

I still have my atarii in the attic. Idk enough to get it out again. I took it down the other week just to take a photo and look at what I have. I didn't even test it. To be honest, I have no idea how the tv out plug works. It looks like a speaker wire, and I can't for the life of me remember how to connect it, and didn't even care enough to research.

>It's Christmas of 1982. You may choose only one.
I love you guys (no homo). I was over at my mothers for dinner with the family the other night, and I decided to go get my Atarii out of the attic. ONLY because of this thread.

Pic related.

I put it back in the attic lol. I can't remember how to hook it up to the TV, and it only has one speaker jack coming out the back of it. I didn't plug it in, and assume it still works. It hasn't been used since 85'.
