I've been doing a lot of ironman runs for the 2D Metal Gears lately. With MG1 in particular, I played the game without removing the transmitter. The MSX2 version forces you to remove the transmitter when you reach the second building, so I might try the Hirake Goma code next time.

Anyone knows the Big Boss ranking requirements for the Subsistence versions and Ghost Babel?

I have no experience with MSX2 emulation on the Nintendo DS, but if you're going that route, make sure you download the fan-translated versions, since Metal Gear 2 was Japanese only. Keep in mind that both Metal Gears on the MSX2 require you to use the F# keys to access item and weapon menus.

The NES Metal Gears are very different from the MSX2 versions. Technically, only the NES version of Metal Gear 1 is a port and it's very different from the original (and arguably not as good). Snake's Revenge was a separate sequel for the NES made without Kojima's involvement.

>And is the GBC game as godlike as everyone says?
It's not a flawless game, but it's pretty much the 2D Metal Gear formula in its peak, since every game afterward was in 3D.

Do you own PS2? You could just order MGS3: Subsistence, which has a second disc with both MSX2 games in it.
