>Even better is if you held on to games you liked during your childhood as the physical games will have that much more sentimental value.
Every "retro" system I have, I have from when I was a teenager. I gave away my NES, SNES and Genesis because of the simplicity that the Wii offered. I don't keep many roms installed, and most are versions of titles I own that are in boxes in the attic. Some people can have every game in the world, and enjoy them individually without issue. Others with ADHD may have issues jumping around between 20,000 games, and never finishing any of them. To each their own I say. If someone gets enjoyment out of it, who am I to judge? If you have these issues, limit yourself to a very small drive, and only play what you have installed. However, a 2gb SD card in a wii can hold a lot of cartridge game titles. Do I think it is absurd to have every game ever backed up locally? Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that If I wander up into the attic, I have 6 or 7 paper ream boxes full of games in various conditions from NIB to cart only. I have more games than I will probably ever play. I keep the quality ones I really enjoy near.

>LCD will be looked back on as an undesirable transition technology.
My wife thinks I am nuts when I prattle on about what could have happened in the CRT market vs the LCD garbage. There was high definition content at 100+hz 18-20 years ago if you had the right computer monitor. Wide screen tech would be a thing right now, and everyone would have a wide screen CRT and they would be better then LCDs are now....but they are a transition technology, and CRT does have its limits. I think I can wait this one out. I just got a new 25" console today, and am super stoked.

>but would using a DVI to VGA adapter eliminate the benefits of the CRT?
Make sure your GPU has a DVI-I, and you should have no issue. If it only had DVI-D, you are pretty well out of luck there.

You should have no trouble driving high refresh rates and low resolutions through a dvi>vga cable. 120hz at 640x480 is quite realistic depending on the model and quality.

You can drive multiple monitors with various resolutions and refresh rates in windows.

>GTX 980 ti, so this is what we're working with.

9XX series of nvidia were the last to offer analog DVI output. You are very good with that card, and this would work great!

>And as usual the polfag puts on his victim complex and derails a thread
I came here to address why I am new here, and why I have been active in no less than 3 threads involving CRTs, PSX and weekend thrift shop finds. This board does not move fast at all, and it

You can dislike me for where I migrated from, but me finding this board was because google directed me here. I was looking for something else, but this format is much better than what I imagined.

Derailing a thread? Not at all. This board moves very slowly. People that post in places like this generally put thought into it.

This thread has been available since Friday. It is in no way derailed. At this rate it will be here next week.

>looks back toward the grownups.

Retro gaming is surging in a huge way. Nostalgia pays well. As the mass of the internet saavy remember their childhood Sega Saturn growing up...Dad always playing sonic etc.....They are starting to have excess incomes from working.

When I get my snes back, I will be here discussing model(s) etc.

I looked for quite a bit of info on the net about my psx and it was scattered about...forums require registration etc. This is quick, easy and always has some sort of visual content. Forums are archived. I have learned quite a bit in the past week that I did not know. Very excited. The content here is excellent. I don't need anything else in a forum....especially not a "Add Friend" or "favorite" button.

Thanks again /vr/
