Scoredoom multiplayer with a friend. Competing for score in real time completely changed how I interpreted Doom. You got points for getting keys first, finding secrets first, killing monsters first, and reaching the exit first, but also lost points for dying. So it turned co-op into this furious, ultra-efficient race of burning through the map as fast as possible while also trying to kill monsters first and deciding if hopping into a secret was worth it, not to mention trying not to run out of ammo or die because you're throwing yourself headfirst into every encounter. I had a giant smile on my face the whole time, literally shouting when I managed to hit an exit first or when I saw him die.

That was easily the most exciting, joyous experience I ever had with Doom. Then he got busy and we never did it again, and Scoredoom stopped updating and no one really tried to carry the torch again. Oh well.
