Eh the uniqueness of the negcon is because of when it was released, not the inherent uniqueness of the controller itself. Analog sticks being a standard basically invalidated the reason for the negcon existing but for that period when 3D was new and exciting but controllers were still laid out for 2D games made the negcon stand out
