Anon who drove 40 minutes to and back to pick up a free Sony Trinitron KV-20WS1U here.
The right side speaker wasn't working yesterday, but I guess it might be a connector inside, because I was moving it today and it's working now. So now the only problems is that it has black bars at the bottom, slightly warping the image into a curve, therefore making it look like the whole image is rotated up to 5°, and there's color bleed (in the color bleed test the alternating black and red vertical lines form a chess pattern instead). I was able to reach the service menu, and I made the image much better than it was, but certain things can't be fixed and are a product of old age.
Also found that the problem with these SD widescreen units is that it's sort of a fake one. There's the 4:3, and then 3 zoom options. The Zoom 3 is also the only decent one, filling up the screen, but it of course expands the original content, making most things look worse.
I thought it would be a flat panel, but it's actually slightly curved.
I'd say it was worth it, at least for learning purposes, since it's only the second CRT I've owned, not counting the ones I had until I was a teen.
