The cable can tell the Wii to set progressive

http://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=av:wii_multi_av_pinout
>MODE pins: On PAL systems the default output is RGB + composite, on NTSC the default is S-video + composite. With pins 8 and 10 shorted, systems from both territories will switch to component video.
>Data Line 2: 0V = 59.94i / 60i ; 5V = 59.94p / 60p
You might be able to put something to block pin 15, maybe you could carefully put a piece of tape in either the Wii or cable.
Or open the plug that goes to the Wii and disconnect this pin, if possible.
This is not the first time i heard this issue.

Possible, do you see any retrace lines?

KV-C2521D 24inch Trinitron made in 1991, i hacked it for 16:9 support.
It's very sharp, i successfully displayed about 950x565i@50hz pixels on it and pixel fine font was fully readable. On the pic it says 1024x576 but it gets overscaned and the video ICs blank out some lines.
KV-M1420D 14inch Trinitron made in 1992 (OP), it's in white. Not a color commonly used by Trinitron TVs from the 90s.
I have 2 other ones: KV-M1400D and KV-M1450D but i don't use them.
Common on all Trinitrons: Improved cooling of the electrical components that get hot, the big one even got an internal fan.

Okay, if no one else want to say something.
I think you gotten something like a FW900, right?
Have you checked the power and video cords. Because they might be internally damaged, you could check that by moving and bending the cable and look if it flickers again.
