I didn't describe it well. They came in a plastic case, but instead of having an insert behind a plastic cover like most DVDs, it had a slip cover that went over the case, instead of inside the plastic.

I have a few Japanese GC games and I like the casing, but I can see why they went with normal cases in the US/Europe. Many of Nintendo's Japanese fans rather liked the cardboard casing they used for their cartridge games, so they made these transparant small cases with a cardboard overlay to combine DVD-esque cases with cardboard boxes.

In the rest of the world, we were more than fed up with cardboard boxes for games, so we got normal cases instead.
