I never saw anybody with a Pocket Pikachu, but these things always seemed so cool.

Pokemon.com had a Pokedex made in Shockwave. I could only go online for a few minutes a day (dialup), and I quickly learned that if I quickly went through all the pages of the Pokedex while I was online, I could read through them at my leisure after I got disconnected. I spent days poring over Pokedex entries like that.
