It might be, I don't know. If consciousness is actually the top-down fundament of reality rather than physics being bottom-up, maybe every time we imagine characters or a world we're literally conjuring that reality into existence. The process of watching a movie or playing a game would then imply a window into a sub-reality which would seem perfectly realistic to the people populating it, even if it would seem fictional to us with the benefit of a higher dimension of context. In turn, this implies that your own life is merely someone else's fiction, and so on, nested ad infinitum.
