I do prefer the NES version overall as well, but the only bait there is allstars-kun's cherrypicked collages. He intentionally leaves out stuff from the AS remake.

Most people don't care that much about defining an "absolute, definitive" answer on which is better. Most people play both.

The lego blocks are a homage to Nintendo's own brick toys from back in the 60s/70s, SOUL.
The caves aren't "generic, souless" (btw you missed an L there), just because you say it, also, cave backgrounds on All Stars have more variation, and effects that you don't get to see on still shots. Pic related.
The rest of the comparisons are just you trying to convince people that the graphics on all-stars are "ugly", when you clearly aren't an artist yourself, you know jack shit about aesthetics.
Both versions are pretty good and it's a GOOD thing that they tried different things on All-Stars, insted of just the same thing with more colors.

Yes, All-Stars is very much worth playing.
The anti-allstars guy will keep posting his nitpicked graphics and samefagging about how he agrees with himself about all stars sucking, but truth of the matter is, All Stars has a lot of neat unique details too.
It's worth playing both.

Played SMB3 on All-Stars recently.
There's more background variety. Pic related is on the ice level underground. Still screenshots doesn't make it justice so here's a gif.
Anyway, it's good that both versions have their own cool things, so neither is really obsolete, if you like SMB3, you can enjoy it in 2 different ways.
