Those games did plenty wrong gameplay wise but the aesthetics and atmosphere were great. Best character design in the series that brought the series back to its roots in a great way, lots of really good world building.

I don't see how someone who considers MK1 the aesthetic pinnacle of the series could consider the cheap spandex superhero stuff of MK3 and MK4 better than the dark Asian influences of the 3D era.
