The hardware is exactly the same as the SNES, just with different shaped plastic around the cartridge slot. Super Famicom games will play in a SNES if you cut off the tabs on the inside of the system that block Super Famicom cartridges.

Or if you want a Super Famicom for the look but are worried about the slightly higher U.S. power voltage, use a U.S. SNES power adapter instead of a Super Famicom power adapter.
