I would definitely say that Majora's Mask is a damn dark game. You are teleported (?) into a world that is going to perish in flames in three days, and almost every npc is drowning in personal problems. The dekus want to put an innocent monkey into boiling oil because their princess is lost, the gorons are freezing and starving, the zoras fear they can't give the concert while the children of mikau and lulu are captured and about to be killed by pirates, and in the canyon a terrible war has passed where nearly all inhabitants, including children, died, but their souls are restless unable to find peace.
And then there are so many more npcs in clock town and around...
Do you remember the deku butler and his son? Romani and Cremai (at the very end)? Kafei and Anju?

I don't know any other Nintendo game that dealt with death and loss as directly as Majora's Mask.

Regarding pic: It's the last day, a few hours before the moon crashes and destroys the entire land. "Chaeau Romani" is treated like alcohol (there's even a milk bar only adults are allowed to enter).
