In Hideous Destructor, how do you safeguard yourself against Ninja Pirates? (the pinkies that fade in and out of view)

There doesn't seem to be any indication that you're being stalked by one, and they've often been my death as I'm engaged with another target or injured, one or two chomps is all it takes to kill me. I'm sometimes able to blindfire them at the spots I know the map spawns pinkies in Vanilla, but this is not always possible.
