Well I'm fucking clueless. If I had to hazard any guess from here I might wonder if the expansion bay pins have started to wear loose due to a cold solder or just repeated force from wedging the things in and out over the years. Maybe check each pin from its contact surface all the way to its respective component and see if there's anything fucky going on. If that checks out then it absolutely must be a problem with the pak itself or the connection. If you have time to spare you can directly solder one to the system itself and completely eliminate any chance of it being poor contact. Did you check the reset button itself for internal corrosion or crap that could be triggering it? The reset buttons on the N64 are shit, mine jammed on me back in '00 and it's a common problem. Have you considered a poor connection from the power supply to the console? Some people will stuff sheets of folded paper between the underside of the power brick and the console itself to make a more sturdy connection, try powering it on and just gently/violently shaking the console like Michael Jackson with a baby, see if it dies. I'm just coming up with shit at this point.

eh, that's kind of a problem. You've raised the expectations so high that you perceive anything else as bad or worthless.

Plus, speedmapping is more of a challenge to see how good of a mapper's wit is in a short timeframe.
Maps that you prefer do take a long time. Time of designing the layout, setpieces, balancing and plenty, plenty of testing to come out with a quality level.
Most of the things i referred in previous sentence are difficult to execute under just few days or less, and even if you succeed, it's obvious it won't be on par like AD.

Sorry if I ended up a bit aggressive and possibly telling the obvious, didn't mean this as a personal attack on you. I'm just sick of shit when people raise the bar on level design and diss other levels as garbage or uninteresting even though it's got some solid stuff.

If someone asked why people like Casablanca more than Paul Blart 2 they'd be called a retard with no taste, but in video games it seems like those kinds of people are the majority.
