Does early-mid 00's count as retro?

Gram a Gizmondo and a Tapwave Zodiac while you're at it

This is a longshot but did anyone else have a Tapwave Zodiac? It was a Palm Device for gaming that came out a bit before the PSP. Not /vr/ but it ended up being a great emulation device for the time and it's where the emu developer John got his start (I believe). It was killed off by the PSP but I loved mine.

I was really into obscure handhelds as a 11-13 year old. I had a NGPC and an N-Gage both after they failed.

god damn, I haven't heard that name in at least a decade. It seems like the industry had so many more ill-conceived ventures in the 2000s compared to now. I guess the most comparable thing is Kickstarter failures like the Ouya.

Pandora was amazing when it came out but of course very few people got to use it when it was relevant. I had a Tapwave Zodiac and was very jealous

I should really pick one of those up, just for its history.

Gizmondo is Windows CE, NGage is Symbian and if you want the trifecta with a Palm device it's pic related - Tapwave Zodiac.

Mobile devices have seen enormous progress in the last decade so all of the above are shit devices by reasonable standards. Screens are shit. Batteries are shit. Resistive touch screens are shit. Just emulate all three platforms on your Android game device.

The libraries are all worth looking at, though. They have a certain flavor that isn't /vr/ related but definitely deserves preservation.

We early phone gamers were freaks.
