It's hard to explain but somehow it's even more fast and crazy than Duke's.

You know it's not possible. Doom and Build have a completely different design philosophy.
Looks like the guy heard the word 'portal', vaguely heard of how RoR works in Shadow Warrior, and wrongly assumed the two were the same things.
Lot's of people make that wrong assumption, it's no big deal, but now he is making a big deal out of it by burying his head in the sand and ignoring this >>4779176

Like I said Doom enemies can be used in a lot more situations, but at the same times there is also the fact that nobody ever really tried to use all enemies at the best of their capacities and try to find new ways to use them.
I think a good example is how it took 20 years for me to play a map which thought of putting Pigtanks behind fences so you couldn't just push their nukebuttons. World Tour maps also make sure the tanks have an escort of other enemies and they always come in pair... Before that, WHEN someone used Pigtanks, they'd use them like in Duke Burger.

I do think he's referring to those awful smudge filters and poorly hand-drawn new textures in this... whatever re-release OP is playing.

SW is easy to "katana start", because the amount of weapons/ammo you find in each level is insane, it barely makes a difference at times. It's easy to die in this game though, so you have to be extra careful, or save.

I've done it on the highest skill, without saving.

Do yourself a favour and give it a try. It's tons of fun, for instance it actually gives use to some equipment items which you'd dismiss in a "normal" play.

Have you played the secret maps of the add-ons? Some of them are hidden well. The ones in WT seem to be 'secret maps' because they were the least finished but they're worth a shot.

Also give a try to Last Warrior TC; and also my map Showdown In Suzhou.

Balancing in SW is on a whole other level. You can die very quickly, but you can also kill very quickly.

Honestly if you spent most of your time using shotgun/uzi, you've been wasting your time. Unless you're playing "katana/shuriken start" on the higher difficulties you should be swimming in ammo, and alternating between every weapon but mostly rocket launcher, grenade launcher, railgun, guardian head, with the occasional use of the sword (very useful in tight environments), sticky bombs for groups of enemies, and ripper heart for mini-bosses.

SW is some of the best deathmatch I've had in my life. Pic related

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a glitch. Throw a dynamite and you'll notice it makes no sound when it detonates. Also if two cultists are close to each other and you kill one, the other still won't trigger, even if it's a dynamite.

And you better kill them before they go underwater... because cultists are surprisingly hard to hit underwater, I'm not sure if it's a glitch or not, but it always comes out as weird to me.

You know, I'm a huge DN3D fan. Been part of the community for more than 10 years, made maps, etc

I also used to play TONS of Dukematch. One day a dukematch buddy and I decided to try out Wang-Bang (Shadow Warrior deathmatch). It was insanely good. He said
>Shadow Warrior - making Duke3D obsolete since 1997
and I couldn't agree more.

Pic related, i kept some screenshots from matches of that day. Just look at the cookie message I'm getting just as my rockets flies only an inch above my adversary's head...

What's sad about Shadow Warrior is that the game is capable of TONS of incredible effects that could end up making crazy ass maps. Tons of effects were only used once in the game, in their basic form. If they were to be exploited, combined, I can't even imagine what could come out of it.
In terms of level design the surface of what's possible hasn't even been scratched, and it will probably never be. The issue is that, the more possibilities you have, the harder it is to map for the game, and the learning curve for SW is very steep.

Honestly I think SW didn't take off because everyone was still busy playing DN3D. DN3D's online was huge, and it had a HUGE mapping/modding community, as well as various add-ons, etc

In comparison, SW mapping offers a lot more possibilities than DN3D's, however it is a LOT, LOT harder to get into. There was also no addon until everyone forgot about the game and the online wasn't as huge, which is sad because SW is genuinely the best FPS deathmatch experience i've ever had and that comes from someone who spent hundreds of hours in Q3A and UT.

So once people were done playing SW and were done thinking "this is cool, like DN3D and more", they were back checking what cool usermap had been released for DN3D

I think both have their cons and pros.

Twin Dragon is a lot more solid all the way through. Wanton Destruction is hit or miss, some great levels, and some shitty ones too (some that look unfinished like the 2 secret ones). The thing with WD is that it has shitty levels, but also some of the best levels ever made for SW at the same time.

>>2289979
I'm pretty sure the city level posted here >>2289954 is TD.

IIRC WD has two city levels though, one in which you're inside some skyscraper and have to jump on skyfolding; and the last level where there is a roof in the middle of the map and 3 buildings to get in all around.

I played a fucktons and fucktons of multiplayer FPS, including a lot of Q3A indeed.

The most fun multiplayer FPS i've experienced is Shadow Warrior
