Yeah, this whole idea about cringe or scrutinizing everyone's actions online is fucking bullshit and I hate it. the "b urself" days really were better. 1337 was kinda dumb, but it was fun and cool to have something lol to do like that. especially since it was unique and different. And it wasn't shitty or edgy, it was just weird.

While I think that the corporitization is part of the problem, I don't know if it's even really the main thing. The problem is really the people. For one, millennials became stodgy adults and zoomers are inherently more group-minded and self-conscious. But really, it's just that when something is in the early adopter phase, the people will be smarter, more creative, and higher quality in general. Normies kinda suck.

Also, the saturation really kills it. Now that 'real life' is largely on the internet, people take it really seriously, like adults needing to make curated linkedin profiles and zoomers giving a shit about their social image on instragram or tiktok. Whereas in the past, people made it a place where you could go to get away from all of that.
