Blood isn't great, it has some cool ideas and levels but also plenty of shit ideas and levels. I think PC gamers 20 years ago really wanted a kickass title and the way the internet always felt about 80s horror and retro fps games made it a shoe-in for a game you aren't allowed to dislike. "bro it's like the best game for evil dead fans!" which yeah, I get it, I don't even disagree. I just don't think it stands out enough in terms of design or represents some impressive greater concept. It's still just Duke Nukem 3D but with a horror skin, which is still Doom but with a macho american action movie skin which is wolfenstein but with higher ceilings which yada yada

I think PC gamers needed Powerslave, the real one not the DOS one, but didn't have it. And PC gamers have always been territorial over console games bleeding over, but for the genre at large Blood wasn't "it." It's a good game to play, especially now you're not force fucking DOSBOX from 20 years ago to get it to run on windows xp with laggy mouse input, but it's not the missing link PowerSlave is.

but powerslave on ps1 does not run well, I beat it on there and the last boss running in a constant state of frame drop below 25 is not fun. saturn version is the best way to play, ex is not retro so lick my gooch and savor it, ps1 has plenty more 60fps 3d games that are impressive, powerslave should have been capped at 30 and some work done to keep it around 30, the port seems shoddy overall

PS1's levels are worse than Saturns, so just play the saturn version instead. The game is top notch though, right up there with doom, duke and quake. If you like FPS games, especially classic shooters, Powerslave Saturn is a must-play.

Rare's games genuinely look like puke. The N64 is the most ugly platform of the generation, dunno why anybody but the most delusional of retards would appreciate that visual puke.

I am now deep into my first playthrough of the Sega Saturn version and have to say, so far it's been simply excellent.

While the combat itself isn't exactly its strong suit, the art and atmosphere, level and sound design as well as the progression are among the best from that era. But don't get me wrong. It handles well enough - for an FPS without any analogue sticks. And there's some nice camera sway going on when you turn and strafe, that gives movement a unique feel (think Turok 2 maybe?). It's just that the auto aim can screw you over on occasion. What really sets it apart from other shooters is the interconnected world map. Levels often have multiple exits, many of which require specific character upgrades for you to reach them. The same goes for hidden items and collectibles. You can revisit any level you have previously traveled through. Oh, and there's rocket jumping. Or rather, grenade jumping. Which is the cooler of the two anyway, right?

So, who else has played this? I hear the PSX and PC versions are quite different (read: inferior) from the Saturn one. I remember seeing the box art on store shelves back in the day but never really took much notice. Totally under the radar all this time.
