[ERROR]

Used to play the original Legend of Zelda with my granddad. He was a drafter in the Air Force and had endless reams of graph paper that we used to make maps of the dungeons and overworld. F, Gramps. My dad only plays Civilization, and he cringes every time I mention video games, which is never often anymore. My brother and I still game online on the occasion that we both have a free moment.

Why are you not playing Quake in 2021? Aged like wine.

duck, and then jump while still attacking so you'll hit your enemy in the middle of their body.

It will make sense very soon, and carry you to the end of the game, I guarantee it

I like Zelda II anything past that is like white noise to me. I can tolerate ALTTP but that's it.

Mario was way more popular than Zelda in Japan, and Zelda 2 takes a lot from both Mario and Dragon Quest. Is it possible that Zelda 2 was an early attempt at making the series more popular with Japanese players?

First and formost, Patience.

You probably already know this if you've played the first quest, but always keep moving in combat. Most rooms that are flooded with darknuts, wizrobes, or like-likes also have indestructible fireball turrets.

The red bubbles which disable your sword can be remedied in two ways: Touching blue bubbles or healing.

Keep a sum of rupees on yourself for dungeons. You will run into some bullshit. I'm not referring to arrow use, either. Remember this in particular when entering dungeon 7.

Dungeon six has the hint for finding dungeon eight. Write it down, it's a literal hint, but you'll need to think outside the box.

Later dungeons will loop on you. A staircase appearing near the middle or end which instantly teleports you to the beginning. Worth doing once in case there are items to miss, but make a mental note of which ones lead where. Getting back can take some time or game overs. The final dungeon is roughly the size of Nebraska due to this.

Last, but not least, get graph paper and take notes on the dungeon. Best way to experience the game as if it were still the 80's.

Have fun.

Gentlemen, how would you improve Zelda 2?

Love it or hate it, what could be done to make it a better experience or perhaps just a better game in general?

I think that certain spells should really be relegated to items and equipment. Jump and Shield, for example, are just a magic drain, especially when you need to use costlier spells like Fairy and Life. Running out of magic is the biggest reason that the sixth temple is such a pain in the ass, and makes sure that it's damn impossible to beat without the magical key (though that's a pretty good design I think, even if the key is also hidden so obtusely that you likely need a guide to find it or even know it exists).

Further, some parts of the game, especially in finding the spells and sword techniques, just seem designed like they were made to sell guide books and hotline minutes. The aforementioned key is a big one, but also things like the missing mirror.

What say you /vr/?
