Whenever I'm feeling kinda aimless or empty I find myself hopping into E4M2 on UV. Are there maps you guys like to go back to for comfort?

>beat e4m2 from a pistol start on UV
>the second game gets even harder
No thanks. I'll just stick to the original DOOM. The original had the perfect difficulty imo

Yeah, this actually is pretty weird, so I'm just gonna sage.

Are we counting Thy Flesh? If so, it's E4M2, hands down.
>constant pressure with limited movement complicated by platforming to create tense tight fights
>the lava floor + radsuit + starting caco swarm making the only moment of real mobility still feel tense because you're essentially time limited to kill as many cacos as you can before you have to book it back to the start
>the level elegantly unraveling itself each time you return to the start
>the shock of finally running up the stairs and immediately staring a cyberdemon point blank in the face that initially seems impossible to kill until you discover the telefrag behind you as you're running away
>the final caco BFG blowout to round out the level

It's just an elegantly compact combat puzzle that pushes a player used to the sprawling labyrinths with lots of dodging room to really learn how to play some motherfucking Doom. It's the closest OG Doom gets to Plutonia-esque challenge, and it's the most exciting for it.

If we're limited only to E1-E3, that's a lot tougher. E3M6's openness is pretty cool.

But I've always had a soft spot for E1M8 because it feels so different from every other level - the somber music, the long mostly empty hallway leading to the surreal, bright red nukage-ceiling star, the Baron reveals, and the whole level deconstructing itself to reveal the bigass pentagram with stairs that slowly rise to meet you, and the shock of what happens once you enter. It's the most atmospheric level with the deepest amount of storytelling in the game: you're stepping from the human world of technology into some weird, evil, unknown shit, and the first thing that happens the moment you cross worlds is you being immediately torn to pieces in a pitch black meat grinder that you have no hope of winning against. No cutscenes, no explanation (at first); just you slowly uncovering something terrible. It's awesome.

Bane of my existence right now. E4M2 - Perfect hatred

Refuse to move onto doom 2 until it's beaten, even though it's the 4th episode of doom (or ultimate doom) which came out after the release of doom 1 and doom 2. I've gotten pretty close to beating it but I keep getting frustrated and then I start playing worse.

Worst part, is if you manage to survive the first onslaught with the nonexistent amount of ammo you carried over from ep one, is getting halfway through and waking up the Cyberdemon.

Must have been a joke to scare the hell out of the player, it is really easy to kill him, and really hard for him to hurt you.
