Low poly EQ could have been kino if they also stuck to the original D&D-like world. Instead the game became full on artificial, things only existed for the sake of some kind of progression mechanic.

Take something as basic as faction for example. The original implementation was heavily RP inspired. Eventually they dropped the idea of race/religion modifiers from new factions in order to make faction more "fair" and it just became something you'd grind to unlock a quest for some item you wanted. Then it devolved even further and became a bar you were forced to fill up just to unlock access to raid zones or rk. 3 spells or raid armor vendors.

in some alternate timeline, EQ was purchased by someone who cares about it instead of DBG and it was ported over to a modern game engine, rebooted, and made great again...
